Wests and the principle founder Barrie West had an early introduction to the printed word, not quite Gutenberg but close! Barrie started his working life as a Letterpress Machine Minder in the days when an apprenticeship to a trade was considered the way to go for a young man straight from school. At 15 this organized by his father
a procurement officer from His Majesty’s Stationary Office ( HMSO). This introduction
to one of the great British book printing houses ( the Gresham Press) was the best thing a father could have directed his son to.

Barrie saw the end of letterpress as it was then and saw the introduction of lithography which has now progressed beyond all recognition to as it was then right though to digital printing as we know it now.

Towards the middle of this 8 year introduction to printing Barrie decided the call of graphic design was the way to go so he worked on a shift basis and spent his free at Art School. He graduated as a printer and as a graphic designer.

This firm grounding has become a passion deep rooted with a very high understanding of all the reproduction processes invaluable to any hands on entrepreneur in what has become via the internet the communication medium for all of us.
